Rattiling and light screeching sound

Post by aghosha »

Hi,

I bought a 98 volvo s70 T5 last Jun. Since then car is doing pretty good.
I had changed timing belt and all necessary maintaince since then.

Only complain I have is occasional rattling and scrreching sound inside the car. I even goes off all of a sudden after some days. Mostly the sound is from the dashboard and surrounding area. I am in NJ and it seems this became more frequent in the winter.

Any idea? All feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks :?:

Rattling inside these cars is common. (Almost) everyone has it at one point or another. You can try taping or spraying some plastic gum (or so I heard from these boards). But it's mostly harmless, except making you feel the car is older than it is.

here's a weird one for screeching. if the weatherstripping? trim on your rails(around windshield) is starting to come loose, air flows under the strip and vibrates it at higher speeds (think of a wax-paper kazoo). Probably not it but worth checking. If it is, you do have to cut and peel away offending strip.
