s60 2006 brake pads
s60 2006 brake pads
Hi- Just purchased my 06, i had it as a lease first. only have 32000 on it and was told i needed to replace my brake pads already. doesn't that seem a bit odd/early at this stage? (was told volvos are notorious for this...have always leased and turned in before, so im not sure!!) Many thanks for your thoughts

Assuming you're talking about the front brakes, 32K sounds pretty normal, Volvo or not. Given 32K is normal, I would not have the dealer due them because of the extra cost. Breaks are easy to due and there is nothing special about the Volvo breaks so any independent can do it.
Volvo doesn't recommend resurfacing the rotors but they should not be worn at 32K.
If you are worried about the pads, pick then up online and take them to the independent. I not a huge believer that pads matter for normal daily driving but I'm sure this will enrage some.

Considering brakes are easy to do, I would suggest you do them yourself. There are no special tools necessary and this is a perfect first time do it yourself job. Rotors should not be resurfaced. Also, an added suggestion, Volvo's are for those with the money to take them into the shop for everything or for those who are willing to do the work themselves...if you don't fall into either category you might consider getting rid of your s60.

Yes, it is odd. I have almost 50k on my 06 V70 and pads still have 2/3 left (front ones are a little less). When was last time the system serviced? Besides replacing your pads, make sure bleed the system and replace the fluid (37.k/2.5yr interval) and also check the calipers to see they are retracted correctly.madswede wrote:only have 32000 on it and was told i needed to replace my brake pads already. doesn't that seem a bit odd/early at this stage?
