hi all, engine will not fire when below 13deg c unless i use "easy start". But starts and runs fine at higher temp. Battery v good, no smoke when running. Very smooth when started. glow plug light comes on briefly is this a clue? i have bench tested glow plugs they all work out of car.
any thoughts

If the engine turns over then the no start is one of three things.
1. The glow plugs are worn and need replacement. How many miles on the car? Did you test for "v" voltage when the glow plug light is on?
2. The fuel is turning to a gel. You may need an additive to keep it properly thin and flowing.
3. Battery is too weak to properly heat the glow plugs at that temp- have a load test done to determine CCA at below 13 degrees.
Let us know what it was.

leslock1, welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
When you removed the glow plugs what was their condition? Black and sooty or wet plugs are usually a sign that they are failing.
Have you tested for voltage at one of the plugs when it is installed in the engine and before the light goes out?
How did you bench test them?
Bill.

Glad to hear your battery is ok. Does sound like glow plugs may not be up to par. This can be due to the glow plug relay not performing properly (not enough amperage or time) or the glow plugs are worn .
How did you test them? How worn are they? can you upload any pics?
