Door stopping? mechanism ...

Hello everyone.

I am not sure that's the way that mechanism is called, but couldn't find a better word for it.
I am talking about the mechanism which holds the door in a certain position and prevents it to close from a light wind for instance.
A couple of days ago, while opening my driver's door, there was a very strong mechanical noise, after what, that mechanism on my door stopped working.
Is there anyone who has a drawing or a pic of that mechanism?
Has anyone repaired it already?

It is called a door check. It is not difficult to repair but you need to remove the interior door panel to remove it so it takes some time.

Avoid the Scan Tech aftermarket replacement parts for this job, I replaced mine in the Platinum with a Scan Tech from FCP and the bolt to the A-Pillar was the wrong thread which stripped out the captive nut in the A-Pillar. After dealing with that by drilling out the captive nut and adding a new bolt, nut, and a lock washer behind the original captive bolt, the part broke again within a few months.
