Your first line makes it sound like you have an electrical problem; battery or alternator. Have both been checked out? Do you have a CEL on right now? Have you read the codes? With codes we have a starting place to figure out what is wrong.

I agree with the above, it sounds like the alternator is on its way out. Have you had the battery and alternator checked?

Hi fcp groton
The battery is good the problem is it will turn over the engine but will not fire no power to distributer or injectors YET if you bump start or push start as you guys might say
it starts striaght away, ounce going no problem its just the starting on the key??

It's been awhile, but it seems to me there is something in the starting circuit that puts power up to the distributer and coil. I had an '84 760 GLT with the V-6 that use to pull that on me. Thinking about it, it might also be in the ignition switch; try running a wire directly from the battery to the coil and then crank it; if it starts that tells you it's somewhere in that circuitry. Too late at night now, but sometime in the morning, I'll go dig out my Haynes Manual and take a look at the wiring diagram and their trouble shooting section.

Sure sounds to me like it is the ignition switch. i.e. when you turn it far enough to engage the starter, it is disconnecting the coil and/or distributor
Thus when you just leave it in the run position and then bump/push start it, the ignition switch is 'out of the circuit' as far as engaging the starter.

I would do as Colonialgirl suggests.

Let us know how you make out.

The ignition switch is a common failure point on these cars so it wouldn't surprise me if that was the culprit.
