S80 2001 Bad turbo. Rebuild? Is it possible to bypass?
2001 S80 has a bad turbo. I'm thinking I might have to replace both turbos. Is anyone familiar with any re builders?

I don't think it's practical to bypass the turbo. There are several places online that sell rebuild kits and turbos.

These guys helped me out alot. One of my turbos was blowing oil through (seals were bad), and they sent me a rebuild kit for just over $100. I sent them back the shaft/compressor/propeller set to have them balance them as a set for $65 plus shipping. I received them back in short order and (carefully!!!) put the entire turbo back together. The whole rebuild cost about $200 with shipping. Or if you want, they will do the whole thing for you for about $350 (don't quote me) and warranty the work. The S80 turbo isn't listed on their site, but they ordered the parts for me and had it to me within a week. The turbo for the S80 is actually made by Mitsubishi.
My turbo (TD-03?) was similar enough in construction that I was able to use the diagram for a similar Mitsubishi turbo as a guide for putting the thing back together. I've driven about 2000 miles with the rebuilt turbo with no problems, if you don't count not being able to keep the car under 80 on the highway.
