check engine light is on my S60 but runs perfectly fine

My S60 (2004 non turbo, 45000miles) has CHECK ENGINE light on for 2 days but everything seems fine. Does anyone know how to check this problem before I take it to the shop or autozone to read fault codes?

check the fuel cap to see if it is tight, that usually fixes it
