Hey Guys,
I'm having a rather strange issue with my transmission. It seems that every time I brake to a complete stop, the tranni slips into neutral and stays there until I take my foot off the brake for a second or two.
After releasing the brake, I can count to 1 one thousand and sometimes to 2 one thousand and then I feel it slip into gear. If I move my foot from the brake immediately to the gas quickly, it will rev then jerk into gear as if I'm moving the shifter into gear.
If I manually shift into low at a stop this doesn't happen.
Has anyone heard of this issue before?
My car is a 2001 V70 Turbo 5-speed automatic.
Thanks.
Paul

Hi,
I had a similar problem with my 850...My transmission hose was leaking at the front near the radiator...the washer was broken at the end...
So check transmission oil with the engine running...if necessary top it up(Mobil 3309)..or drain and refill it...let us know what happens!

You know about the Stop/Neutral function?
Volvo, in its infinite wisdom, programmed a function into its early Geartronic transmissions that would shift the tranny into neutral at a complete stop and into gear when the foot brake was released. Turns out it contributes to the early demise of the transmission.
The Stop/Neutral function can be switched at, and only at, the dealership via VIDA, Volvo's proprietary database.

Wow. After reading your reply, I found some other posts here in the forum that confirm what you're talking about.
What a ridiculous design. Why in the world would they think that would be a good idea?
Anyway, I guess I have to bring it into the dealer for this. Any idea what they charge to update the software to turn it off?
Thanks.

Actually I think it's a smart idea....because this is supposed to consume less gas and be better on the transmission because it is relived of stress..so I thinkadryheat wrote:Wow. After reading your reply, I found some other posts here in the forum that confirm what you're talking about.

i just paid right at 225$for this download and it actually made the problem worse.this was a dumb idea the gas savings and the stress relief wouldn't compare or justify a 4200$ trans replacement.this is 2010 the trans is worth more than the car.
