Interior squeaking in 850 wagon finally found!

It's been a month since we bought our '94 850 turbo wagon. Thus far, we are very happy with it, but for all that time, I have been trying to track down a mysterious squeak coming from the rear of the cabin (interior) whenever the car passed over more than a very modest bump. I inspected/greased/siliconed every hinge, joint, and friction point - anything that moved or looked like it might move - but it was still there.

Today, to accomodate some cargo, I removed the hanging tray just behind the rear seats (to which the roll-out security cover is mounted) and viola - the squeak was gone! Before putting it back, I lubricated the four little pegs that the tray rests on, and ............it's gone, gone, gone - yipee!

BTW, my posting nickname was inspired by this quest - perhaps I should choose a new one.

Recently bought my 1994 850 turbo on e-bay, and it had # squeaks and rattles. Moon roof sun shield was out of track (fixed easily-someone had forced it closed with glass in up position), and rattles were emanating from rear compartment. After removing lid behind back seats and everything in spare tire well, the problem persisted. A friend drove over some bumps while I sat in the back and discovered that the whole rear door was moving and producing the rattle. Not having the large Torx driver for liftgate latch adjustment, I used a piece of steel and sledge hammer to "adjust" it tighter. Moving it about 2mm forward did the trick. Squeak (especially when freezing out) up front emanated from right front strut bushing that was kaput. I replaced both front struts and spring seats. Lastly a rattle from front brake caliper responded to replacing the spring.
