1998 S70 - Troubleshooting OBDII Emissions Code P0445

Post by VolvoFan10 »

Can anyone tell me what the most likely cause of the P0445 code which causes my Check Engine light to eluminate? I will go on record and say that I don't believe the problem to be a faulty gas cap seal as Autozone Personell like to suggest.

P0455 can indeed be a loose gas cap code but it is more likely a cracked line to the charcoal canister. Make sure the cap is tight, clear the code, and see if it comes back. If it does start checking the lines from the gas tank to the charcoal cannister and the lines from the canister to the purge valve. Basically you need to check everything associated with the EVAP system. The lines around the gas tank are somewhat prone to cracking and they are a real pain to replace. Hopefully yours is one of the easy ones.

Probably a cracked J hose by the charcoal canister under the car by the right rear door . There is a you tube video on this.

Could be a leak ANYWHERE in the EVAP system.
Mine wound up being a bad check valve near the purge valve.
A smoke test by a good shop will reveal the location of any breaches
in the system, but the 0455 can still be a real bear to find.
