240 1986 I want to rebuild the struts

Hi-

I have the parts to rebuild my struts. I just do not know how to remove the top nut without the #5036/5037 Volvo tools needed- see p.28.

Any suggestions?

Also- how do I edit my profile- I do not own a 1991 940, but 1986 240.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

I have changed a number of struts on various models of Volvo and other makes and didn't know I had to use a special tool. I use the sockets and spanners in my tool kit.

To edit your profile click on "User Control Panel" at top right of the page. On the left of the control panel click on "Profile" then "Edit Profile" and change what you wish.

Do you mean I can use a 15/16 socket to take the top nut off? How do I use the crescent (spanner) in conjunction with the socket?

When I have dismantled struts I have removed the whole assembly from the car, removed the spring and used a ring spanner on the nut whilst gripping the piston rod with an adjustable wrench.
