i need a new oil cooler adapter. does the 960 oil filter stick straight down?
my oil filter sticks out sideways off of an adapter. it looks like i could delete the adapter if i had the right threaded fitting to accept the filter.
is anyone familiar with this?

i've never owned a volvo before so i assume it's standard issue.
the guys at my local volvo shop sold me a used one they salvaged.
there were no seals in the adapter, and the oil cooler has a pin hole in it because apparently the previous owner bottomed out on something.
i have a lot of confidence in JB Weld, but on something so crucial I'd hate to damage the engine over $45.

It is standard on '94 to '97 models. '92 & '93 models had a different oil cooler which didn't include the filter. On those two years the filter did point down.i've never owned a volvo before so i assume it's standard issue
A new oil cooler can be found here. Rather expensive!!
You could try Erie Vo-Vo, link at the top of the forum. Phone rather than email. I believe they are very knowledgeable and helpful.

Where is the pin hole, on the oil side or the coolant side?
There are o-rings that seal the coolant housing from the oil section. Can you get this from a junk yard?
If it is the coolant side, you could bypass the cooler I suppose, not sure what that might do to the oil temp on a hot summer day. But then, the engine is originally spec'd for conventional motor oil, with synthetic, you might have some leeway on temps.

Thank you for letting us know how it turns out. Many times people don't post the results, which is a bit disappointing. The board is about disseminating information.
I do not wish to engage in the synthetic versus natural oil debate, but it would make no difference. You've done the correct thing.
Good Luck,
Bright
