"snowflake" light on dash panel

Post by hollywood953 »

I am sure it's an outside temperature indicator but I want to make sure. The light is to the left of the thermometer and looks like a snowflake. It has illuminated lately. What is it please?

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

It comes on when the outside temperature is 2C (36F) or less.

Thanks Bill. I thought that was the case but I also thought that since it wasn't at 32 degrees or freezing that it might be something else. Right before the light came on my wife said it was driving rough and the check engine light came on so I changed the coil pack on the #3 cylinder and the light came on after that. Just a coincidence I assume. This #3 cylinder has had the coil pack changed twice and some are the originals. Is there a reason for this perhaps?

Another safety feature, warning of the possibility of freezing. You've really got to love Volvos.

Did you check the wiring to the coil pack? It does get very hot and in some cases the insulation has broken down, not the coil pack.

The wiring appeared to be ok but looked like it was stretched to the max. Almost like if the pack was 1/4 inch away from it there is no way it would reach. Does this sound right? It also appears as though 3 of the connectors have been changed.

I would think that someone has had the problem of bad insulation and cut the wires back. You may be looking at a new loom in the near future.

This has been on the forum recently.
