Location of OBD Connector in '96 Volvo 960 (4cylinders)

Where is the OBD connector located in a 1996 Volvo 960 (4 cylinder engine number B230GK123606300119)?
Have received my Scanning Tool, consisting of a RS232 to OBD cable and a CD containing the program. Now I want to test the tool, but cannot find the OBD connector in the car.

There is no listing for the B230GK engine fitted to a '96 960.

The 940 from '96 to '98 did use the GK engine in certain countries.

My information is that the vehicles using the GK engine through to '98 still had the OBD1 system fitted. This is located in the engine compartment behind the left strut mount and doesn't need a scan tool.

When OBD11 is fitted the data link connector must be in the passenger compartment and within easy reach of the driver's seat. On the '96 960 it is mounted in front of the gear selector.

If the OBD connector is located in front of the gear selector, then I would need guidance on how to remove the console box. Do you have any drawing that shows how to do that?

BTW, I live in Jakarta - Indonesia. And if I am not mistaken, the importer here changed the naming of the Volvo 940 to become 960, I do not know why.
So my Volvo should actually be called a 940 (since it is using a 4 cylinders engine). And the OBDi is not there anymore.

Importers do some strange things, as do Volvo. My VADIS shows the OBD1 fitted to all 940s up to 1998. When I first checked I only looked for the GK engine for which I have never had a question. Just goes to show you can't trust technical publications!!

OBD11 became the industry standard in late '95, that is the '96 models. One of the stipulations was that the data link connector must be accessible from the driver's seat with little or no dismantling. The location I gave you was for the 960. For the 940 it is right hand side of the centre console under a lift off panel:

SInce my wife is using thyat car today and tomorrow, I shall check the OBDII connector after she comes back.

This Volvo Site is really excellent. You get responses so quickly and it makes you more confident in driving and using Volvo automobiles....
