I've got a 1992 240DL and I've got an electrical problem.
Drove home last night when suddenly my idiot lights began to faintly flicker. I began to try finding the source of the flickering by turning things on/off and accel/decel etc. Nothing affected it.
After about 10 minutes my dash backlight began to fade, but my headlights remained strong. Then the radio went out, but my portable CD player connected to cigarette lighter remained on.
This continued until I arrived at home, and when I turned to park the car died. The next morning the car started immediately, but the idiot lights were still flickering and after 5 mins the engine began to shudder. When I turned the lights on, it killed.
Does someone know what the problem is? Possibilities I'm considering:
-Coil
-Alternator
-Short
-voltage regulator
??
240 idiot lights flicker and eventually stalls

I had the same exact thing happen to my '87 DL wagon.
Check in your engine compartment, in the front-drivers-side corner there should be a white fuse clip. Likely it's damaged or the contacts are corroded to the point where it's not functioning correctly.
Hope this helps

My sister's '92 240 had the exact same problem. The culprit: the alternator. While you are at it, you should(if you haven't already) test the voltage of the battery, replace fuse # 6, and replace the crank position sensor. Have a splendid day
