Where are all the chemists when the subject switches from synthetic oils to unit conversions? Surely, I am not the only chemist who is on this board? If everyone is so sure about synth I would think it is easy to crank up an equation editor and show a simple conversionpolskamafia mjl wrote:Wait I just realized something that might clear things up....
If anyone has ever done factor label method in a chem class then you can confirm this number for me.
*ahem*
That wasn't directed at you polska* But you got it right.
You did a good job. All you have to do is remember the ratio of 1.2/1 Don't monkey with the decimal. You won't remember it, and besides it's built into 1.2/1 (any real number is the quotient of two numbers.)
When it comes time for the GCSE's just remember to flip the ratio so that the corresponding units cancel out.
My teachers did a wretched job of teaching this. It cost me untold hours until I found the technique in a weird place. All you have to do is line them up and keep the party going until you get your final answer with correct units.
Here you go:Does 39.6 miles per imperial gallon make more sense?
