I already own a 1999 s70 which is our family favorite vehicle. I am looking to purchase a 2001 v70 t5 with just over 100K miles on it. The interior and exterior of the car appear to be in excellent shape. Carfax shows that the car was a two time certified used car sale (something which I did not know was possible) from two different dealers. The only thing that I know needs to be done is the timing belt. Can anyone give me some input on what is likely to expect given the age of the car? Consumer reports shows that there has been a high frequency of transmission issues but with no real details on cost and type of problems etc..
Thanks!

Our '01 V70 T5 has just over 125,000 on it. I have replaced the Brake Booster, had the ABS module rebuilt, had the radiator fan motor replaced on a recall, replaced the Electronic Throttle Module (a poor design acknowledged by Volvo and warranteed to 100,000 miles. Do a search on this forum for more info}. I'm babying the transmission, another well-known defective design, although there are there are downloads and maintenance practices you can use to increase its longevity. The upper springs seats usually last to about 80,000, I replaced those, too. Anti-sway bars require replacement somewhere around 90,000. I did mine awhile back.
The '01 models of the V70 are, being a first year production car on the P2 chassis, plagued by various weaknesses not present in later production years. Still, I like our car and trained myself to do most repairs myself. If you're so inclined, you might like one, too. Forewarned is forearmed.

Thanks for the input. I am trying to weight the cost of the transmission repairs vs. the added cost to maybe buying a later v70. The transmission issues appear to have been resolved in the 2003-2004 model years. Any idea what the cost of a rebuilt transmission would cost for the 2001 model year? I have been trying to get an idea online but not having much luck.
Thanks again!

4 to 5 grand for a new tranny.
If you can find one of the handful of people that can actually rebuild these, about $3200 installed

Yikes! I was affraid of that. The car seems to run perfect now but I like to anticipate problems down the road. I am even considering purchasing an extended warranty (3 yr 36000) just in case there is an issue down the road. Anyone know of a company that actually pays their claims. I have heard the horror stories!
Thanks!
