89 740 GL Hard Cold weather starting

Post by nisan17 »

Hi group,
My problem is: The last couple weeks when the temps dropped into the teens I had to give the car a charge/boost to get it started in the morning, even after a five hour charge the night before. I then had a local parts store do a charging system check to find the system is ok, and the battery holding a charge, but needing a full charge as the guy says. So, I charged it for eight hours and nothing the next morning.(so, as soon as I put on the charger/booster you can hear the cells giving that sizzling sound as if fully charged or through my experience, a bad battery) So, I bought a new 700cca battery. The moment I installed it, turned the key and nothing, no click(I had some clicks during my previous charges/boosts).

I did get it to start several times while wiggling the key while holding it to the start position. If this is a ignition switch problem, can I repair it, or where can I get a switch?
BTW, it starts fine once warm.

Thanks in Advance
Kevin

If you can find a way to repair the ignition switch get down to the patents office ASAP, you'll make a fortune.

Unfortunately, the problem is caused by wear.

Four of the sponsors at the top of the forum who supply new parts can supply this part. Prices vary so pick the one that suits you. Remember, some of them give a further discount to MVS members.

If you want to try for a used part contact Erie Vo-Vo.

Thanks Bill. I'll start shopping so when a warm spell hits I can install it. I hope It will last that long!?
