The brakes on my 1993 850 have been applying themselves automatically, not enough to stop the car but annoying nonetheless, particularly when i first start driving down the road. A quick tap on the brake pedal generally stops the brake motor. It will then do the same thing at the next stop. Essentially, the motor is applying the brakes even without touching the brake pedal right after stopping. Tonight, I pulled out the fuse for the "ABS pump motor" and the noise stopped, as well as the automatic application of the brakes. Now the brakes work fine but the ABS light is on all of the time. Sounds serious. Do I need to replace the ABS pump motor? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

It could just be dirty wheel sensors - yank the codes from port A-3 and post them back. If the brakes are modulating the pump must be good.

Hi Lee,
I really appreciate you taking the time to assist me. Here are the A3 codes:
4-4-4
3-2-1
2-1-1
2-1-3
2-1-4
1-4-1
4-4-3
1-2-1
1-2-2
I'll be amazed if you can decipher these codes into something comprehensible.
Again, Thanks!

I returned the fuse before checking the codes. I'll clear the codes and check them again.

The ABS system on the 93 - 95 Volvo 850 are pretty bullet proof and don't fail to often. More then likely it is a wheel sensor that is on it's way out. Once you get the codes cleared, the wheel sensor code will come back and you will know which one is giving you an issue.

Hey! 3-1-2 is the only code to come up. according to the swedishbricks.net website, the problem is a right front wheel sensor: open circuit or short-circuit. I'll check it out!
Thanks for everyone's help!
