Hello all,
I own a 2007 s40 and I just surpassed 50,000miles and of course all the issues begin. I do not hear the A/C compressor "clicking" like I used to and no cold air is coming through the vents any more. Only cool/warm air.
All was working fine until this cold spell hit Florida. I was using the heat, but the warmth is back, but no A/C.
Another issue is I was checking my fluids and noticed that my coolant was near empty. I have not seen anything under my car (I always check due to past issues). Anyone else ever heard of this? I refilled to between min and max and will look again tomorrow to see where I am at.
Any thought are appreciated.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
Check the freon in the AC. If it has dropped too low the compressor switches off to avoid damage.
You have been using your heater but how long was it from the last time you used it? You indicate that you have had coolant issues before. Has the system been drained and refilled? Was the heater valve on max heat if it was? I am thinking the heater may have had air in it and using it has taken the missing coolant.
Bill.

Thank for the reply Bill.
I just had the car checked out and the mechanic said it was the compressor clutch, but I did not ask them if they checked the coolant. I will ask before I do any kind of repair.
The issue I had with the coolant system was that mysteriously a hole developed in my radiator that caused all the coolant to spill out. Which caused a whole array of problems. Finally, all seemed ok, but I know always check to make sure. The whole system was flushed at that time. I had only run the heat for about 2 weeks and the A/C was working smoothe before that.
By the way, I also had mechanic check pressure in coolant system and all was fine. I am thinking the cap for the reservoir may not be sealing and caused the coolant to vaporize. Does this seem possible?
