960 24v 3ltr 1994 Audible warning of approach (horn)
Recent intermittant fault on horn has now refused to work at all. After checking the actual horn unit and finding it good thoughts then turned to the slip ring in the steering wheel housing but knowing the close proximity of the airbag mechanism was fearful of getting my face blown off by probing around in there. Most of us dont use the horn too often and maybe the slip ring can indeed aquire a dust coating causing the above problem. Can i safely remove wheel center to investigate or should it be left to a braver man than me.

If your going to mess with air bag stuff... disconnect the battery and leave it for about an hour. by then you should be ok to remove it.
Can someone verify this?

Volvo recommend leaving about 15 minutes, but that doesn't give you time to get a cup of coffee.
When you have disconnected the negative lead put the ignition switch to position 1 as you need to be able to move the steering wheel to get the pad off. The pad is, in fact, the airbag module.
Remove the steering wheel adjustment lever (3mm Allen key).
Remove 6 screws under the lower steering shaft cover and lift the covers off.
Remove the steering wheel module by removing two torx 30 screws on the rear of the wheel. To get to the screws you need to turn the wheel 90 degrees in each direction.
Disconnect the connector and lift the module out.
Assembly is, as they say, a reverse of the above, with one extra part - code for the radio.
Bill.
