Hey matt do I get something special for bringing someone?
Sure, we'll put you through the spam training boot camp too!

I'd definitely try a new dimmer switch before diving any further into the dash. May as well pull the lighting relay too if you're heading to a junkyard.

You said you added an aftermarket radio to your car?..

Well, there is a wire in the stock harness for the dash lights that is not connected to anything now that you have installed a different radio. My question is, where is this wire connected to now? ... I would remove the radio and ensure that all unused wires are properly taped up to prevent them touching anything and shorting out. The dimmer switch would sense this and cut the power due to overload when shorted.

Relay is letter K in the document below, located up under the dash.

The loose wire sounds like a likely suspect to me - when I connected the radio in my Saab directly to the open battery wire rather than the one controlled by the ignition, it began to do strange things.

Interesting...

Lol, Thanks for the document... I shall have about 200 relays after this weekend... hehe.

i dont think its the radio. just because its had that radio in for well over 6months and now all of a sudden its doing it...however ill pull the radio out today and double check everything. the radio is connected as it should be...positive, negative and so on to the correct wires...the RADIO itself has not Dimmer function. so it is eather on or off now dimming with the rest of the dash. also my lighter is still working and my boost guage (aftermarket).

BTW THE ONLY THING ON THE DASH LIGHTING UP OTHER THAN THE RADIO IS THE LITTLE SQUARE LIGHT ON THE LIGHT SWITCH....if anyone knows what im talking about...maybe it is the squitch because if it was the relay that should be off as well im guessing?

I know the light thing your talking about.
Gives you ambient temp, gas mileage, and such.

This all seems really odd, maybe you just have a bad connection somewhere that finally went.

Like my blower motor before I replaced it,
The connection just eventually gave completely so it faded on and off till it just never turned back on.

Well, I'm having the same problem in my daughter's 95 850. I'll be pulling the dash soon to replace the cover panel, fix the odometer & check this problem, too.

Robb - can you get me a dimmer and relay from the JY?
