Nope, exact same thing! The 99 and 2000 engines were different, but a 98 is essentially the same thing carried over from the 850. The light-pressure turbo was the GLT model.

I'm not sure if there are any wiring differences, I'll try to dig up some diagrams and compare the two.

The general consensus seems to be that the 98 engine will work just fine since it's exactly the same engine block. It's even easier because yours is an N/A model instead of a turbo - the -70 turbo mapping was a little different. The ECU chip is slightly different, but the wiring and everything is the same.

If you choose to go that route, I'd just pop in the 4.4 ECU from the S70 into your 850, and use all the pre-existing 850 sensors and wiring harness. But you'll have spare parts if you need them. Wouldn't hurt to have an extra transmission laying around

I'll keep an eye out for you on Craigslist for anything else - my mother is looking around for a V70 in that area, and I'm trying to find a few good ones for her to look at.

Silver State Imports had a 98 V70 w/ 72k on it that sold for $5600 a few months ago, I went to look at it the day it was posted on CL and someone had beaten me to it by 5 mins. He bought it on the spot.

I notice Weaver Motorsports ads on CL a lot too, they are nice low mileage cars but are overpriced IMO.

Maybe I missed this, but what year is the 850? Just wondering as you said the odo is broke.... and you can pull the true mileage from OBD I if you did not already know/do this.

Just a thought.

It's a '96, unfortunately not like my '95! I do pull the miles off mine often.

Still haven't heard back from the seller yet on the title issue though, I was thinking of sending an email maybe on Friday to check up. He seemed excited to get it out of his life but you never know...

Well good news (maybe!) the deal is going down on Wednesday (3 days from now). I'm getting it towed to my house.

Of course, as luck would have it, starting mid-Febuary I start to get real busy at work so it's going to be slow going. But I can't wait!! :) :)

Here's some pics:

So the next question is...HOW THE HELL DO YOU PULL AN ENGINE???? :)
