2006 V70 R Thinking of pulling the trigger on buying this!

So, anything about this year that I should be concerned about? If it's maintained as well as the owner says I don't think I can pass this by.

Too expensive for the miles and I do NOT like that tow hitch (possible tranny issues)

It's got a lot of pluses and a lot of minuses. Great records. Many owners/miles.

Ask why he's selling, among the other, standard questions one asks.

A Sunfish boat weighs less than 200lbs from my quick online search. Even with a trailer you're looking at a negligible tow weight. Plus it's a manual, which isn't as much of a disadvantage when towing. Unless the driver rode the clutch.

If he's asking $9k, maybe he'll take $8k, which isn't that much bread for a car like this (I owned an 04 R wagon).

Remember you need to spend significantly more $ (or time) catching up with maintenance on these AWD P2s than say a Japanese brand, or even another Volvo. And if it needs struts, beware. They're ~$400 each. This would be my first question: are the struts original?

I wouldn't say that, at the last has fees and other potential seller costs for a third party, but if you deal directly with the seller, you can avoid them. Don't read a whole lot into blue book as a vehicle's value is solely what a seller and buyer agree on, whether it's 5 or 5,000,000. BB averages a bunch of cars from a bunch of sellers to bunch of buyers and all sorts of other variables, but the seller only has to find one buyer, not a bunch (and vice versa for a buyer). If close enough, and interested go take a look.

+1 on the struts and rear shocks. At this mileage they wouldn't be as tight as they should be.

I WOULD be counting on a clutch replacement soon. 180, 000 miles on the original one on a high powered car is a ridiculous amount of mileage.

Factor this into the equation.

Admittedly not a high-powered car, but my original base mode '98 V70 clutch went to 229,500 miles and was not down to the rivits, and my mechanic told me he had seen original clutches on these cars go to 300K miles, but precopster is correct, a reserve fund for clutch replacement should be considered if you opt for this car.

Well I let the fever pass. I spoke to him and he said it had the timing belt changed at about 120k, but not sure if it had been done since. Should be near the end of that life cycle. Didn't have specific info about the shocks past the 140k mark.

But more importantly I gave myself a few days to consider whether I was in a position to take on some unknowns vs. keep the known issues I have with my car... which are issues I can live with. Ultimately I think I have decided that for now it's better for me to stick with the 99 V70XC that has been running wonderfully for the last year after getting the issues with it squared away. I was going to have to potentially take out a loan to pick it up and I just couldn't justify having a payment on a car that had no warranty...

+1 to letting my rational mind win this round.

I'm curious why there are unknowns. I would rather the seller just say they weren't done. So much for the "extensive records from mile 0";-)

It's not that he was evasive, he just didn't have the records in front of him. It seems that the first 140k miles were the most documented as they were done at the original dealer by the original owner, after that it was mostly enthusiast driven repairs... much like ones we perform by ourselves here.
