Power streeing cap leaking

2001 S-80 2.9 Auto. (getting to be a PIMA)

OK I noticed that there was fluid on and around the reservoir and cap. So I wiped it all off cleaned the cap then checked the fluid, was right on the full hot mark (car was hot). So figured someone just over filled it right. Well today I was drive the car and thought I would open her up and clean out the cobwebs. Well I start to smell PS fluid. Got home and sure enough there is fluid all over the reservoir! Now the guy that checked the car out had said that the cap might be bad and to keep an eye on it. Now I was thinking after I just found out these cars have a PS filter that maybe the filter needs to be changed. Has anyone else run into this before and do you think I'm on the right track? I have worked on thousands of cars and have never had to replace a filler cap, remember this car only has 45K on the clock.

I have noticed the same thing on my 2000 S80, but mine is loosing fluid and the large hose on the side of the reservoir is wet.
The diagram of the power steering system does not mention anything about a filter.
I am still investigating mine, but I never gave any thought to the cap being the culprit.

Well I did some more checking and it seems that Auto Zone recommends adding a filter. They show one on their website but after calling them I was told that again they recommend adding it, have to say I do agree with that.

Talked to the Volvo dealer and they said the seal is most likely bad so I ordered a new cap, cost is $13 and change cost $15+ list.

The cap is the problem, the gasket on top of the cap is not available by itself from Volvo. So buy a new cap and it will come with a gasket. We sell them all the time. Part number is 9475862, goes for about $12 bucks.
