S60 2002 electronic clock runs continuously

Post by CaroEvans »

My electronic clock on the dashboard will beep periodically and then run continuously though all the numbers. When I accelerate, it speeds up the rotation of the numbers, and when I idle, it still runs through (quickly) but at a slower pace than when idling.

Any ideas? The shop here in Atlanta has never seen it before. It does not really affect performance (it has been doing this for at least 2 years), but when I finally decided to have it looked at, the shop said when hooked up to their computer, it beeps, starts doing the clock thing, and shuts down all communication between my car's computer and theirs for a few seconds. Any help is appreciated!

That is a strange one. Those DIM's (drivers information module) are not really repairable. When you buy a new one you have to give the old one back as a core, they rebuild them at Volvo. There is a software "DIM upgrade" part number 30677020. That would be your only real option that would be inexpensive that I know of. Otherwise it is just replacement of the entire DIM, but for the price maybe you could live with the weird clock isssue. We stock and sell the DIM for $787. It would require software also when you install it.

Wow, I love this forum. Thanks CaroEvans, you've described what is going on with the clock in my 2002 new-to-me V70 XC. So at least you know you're not alone. It wasn't doing this when we bought it in late January. The repair shop here in Chicago that works on all european cars hadn't seen it either. The mechanic was thinking it was the microswitch.
