2004 S60R awd 'angle gear' problem

Post by meteg »

I'm writing in this section for a friend who needs help with his 2004 s60r awd car.there is a problem with the 'angle gear' and he says there was a noise coming from it and the noise became louder and louder.he took the car to the dealer and they told him the part needs to be upgraded with a newer part.. I wonder in a situation like this if he can get this replaced with a warranty? I know that in U.S there are some extended warranties but we live in Turkey and the part is going to cost him $1500.. labor not included..

any comments?

There are no "newer parts"
If it broke it broke and will be replaced with the same part.
There are other things that go "pop", such as the collar gear between the tranny and the Haldex

JRL is right. More then likely the sleeve that connects the angle gear to the transmission is bad and needs to be replaced. I have heard they made them stronger but I do not know for sure if this is true.

I've seen several sleeves with the splines pulled out on the bevel gear side of the sleeve. If it were mine I'd try a new sleeve , provided the splines looked good on the bevel gear.
