Hi there
Brake light will not go off on my V70 2000. Sometimes it will go out if I pulse the pedal but strange thing is that occasionly it will go on when I push the clutch pedal. Is this a typical scenario for a worn brake light switch or may there be a short circuit between the brake light switch wiring and clutch pedal arm when pressed down? Or can the clutch pedal scenario be caused by the pressed clutch pedal bringing the brake pedal down a bit through the shaft?
If it is likely the brake light switch, do I have to exchange it or can it be reset or lubricated?
Thanks for any help!

I'm thinking it's just the stop light switch. They often just break entirely, the tab that pushes in wears out over time. I've had one go bad on 2/3 of my cars. Depending on the design of the Volvo's, you MAY be able to wedge a piece of paper in it (Honda's are ON unless the pedal is pressed) to supplement the part that has broken, but your best bet is simply replacing the switch.
Crawl up under your dash and look directly above the pedal to see what's actually broken with it.
The other possibility is a short between the cruise-control cut-out switch for the clutch pedal and the brake light switch.

Many thanks for the guidance.
I will check the switch. Just gotta prepare myself mentally for the claustrophobic feeling crawling in underneath the dash.
Will probably replace the switch, its not very expensive.
Bought this car 2 weeks ago, has run 100000 miles, no rust and looks real nice. But I already had to replace the antenna ring, rear caliper and now probably the brake switch. Will proactively exchange the fuel pump relay, they often break down and is not very expensive. There are always surprises coming buying a used car..
