99 s80 oil consumption

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

thanks. the s80 smell is definitely from oil. I'll try the auto rx first but what about the pcv? I'm pretty sure it needs to be cleaned. Does the auto-rx have any effect on that?

Interesting about the smell of the hot maple syrup. I also have a '04 v70r with no problems excepts this nasty smell only in the cabin. It smells like sweet, rotting food after being driven and then parked for a while. I've checked everywhere for some spilled something or other and it does seem to be coming from somewhere low in the car in the neighborhood of the shifter. That could be the culprit.

thanks again!!

No, the AutoRX won't help with the PCV system. That needs to be done manually, and is a pain. The clogged PCV system blew out one of my engine seals, and started smelling like you describe. Fortunately, you don't have a turbo on that one, which makes it easier

The heater core is located just by the firewall at the bottom of the center console in the V70, and is probably leaking exactly there and causing that smell you describe. The heater core itself is a relatively easy fix, search 'heater core repair' on the site here for directions with some helpful pictures.

You can wait and see what happens, but I doubt the Auto-Rx will do much for the PCV. You'll probably have to pull it off and clean it by hand. Remove the intake manifold to get to it.

If it's really plugged up, it'll feel a bit sluggish. It's like trying to breathe through a stuffy nose. My engine opened up a lot once I cleaned out the system.

I've read that the pcv box can be removed without taking the accessory bracket off if you have a special tool. Do have any info on that?

It might cause it to miss because of oil fouling of the spark plugs.

I don't know on your car, but on the S80 T6, the alternator bracket blocks one bolt of the oil separator. You can break the separator off, then use an angle grinder to remove some metal from the bracket to make enough space to remove/reinstall the bolt. If you do it this way, you will have to buy a new separator.

Not meaning to hi-jack the thread but is it possible to use a die grinder to grind off part of the accessories bracket i.e. without breaking off the oil separator container? or is the portion of the bracket not accessible until the separator is removed/broken off?
Thks.

I'm not sure. There's not much clearance in there.
