2012 XC70 oil consumption

I'm not sure if this has been covered or not. I just wanted to give anyone that has a 2012 XC70 a head's up.

I have a 2012 XC70 and it has been a very good car. In January with approx 30K miles, I had the oil changed at a local quick oil place and within 1,000 miles by engine oil light came on. I was sure that the local quick oil place shorted me a quart +.

Then before my next oil change I needed an additional quart. I contacted my Volvo dealer which is Volvo of Princeton and the C/S rep asked me a few questions. He told me to bring the car in and gave me a loaner. 4 days later, I had a rebuilt engine with all new pistons. Total invoice $ 0.00.

If you are having a problem with oil consumption, Volvo had a problem with a certain string of VIN #'s. If your VIN fits into that framework, It is an automatic rebuild.

I'm not finding any document entities of a recall or service bulletin on this, so YMMV.

Dealers can milk manufacturers for warranty work so the motives for this are not always friendly to everyone.
