To my surpise I found that the tweeters on both sides of the dash (the speakers on the top of the dash, nearest to the windscreen) no longer had their magnets attached to them (it's quite easy to lift off the grills and press on the little buttons to release the speaker panel to check). Helpfully, the magnets find the nearest piece of metal to cling themselves to, and I was able to glue them back on to the coils of the speakers. Presto, high tones restored.

As it happened to both sides, I wondered if it might be a common fault, so I thought I'd mention it here. The stereo still sounds pretty good without these speakers, so it's not something you may necessarily be aware of...

Interesting. I think one of my dash speakers is missing entirely, but this weekend I'll check again. maybe just part of it is missing. Didn't realize you could re-glue something like that.

What glue did you use?

One of the few reasons I can still enjoy my '94 850...

Exact same thing happened with me on my '93 GLT. I just replaced them with a set from a 2000 S70.. ;)

Thanks.....................I checked them and they were easy to take out, magnets were intact BUT! the speakers were dried out and ripped from sun exposure.......they sound fine but probably not as good as ones that are not ripped.........So...who knows were to get good replacements?

I used 'Araldite' (at least that's what it's called in the UK). It comes in two syringes which you mix up; it sets in about five hours and is very strong. I used the glue on the black plastic that surrounds the coil (which is what had broken in the first place).

OK. I had a feeling Elmer's wouldn't get it done. I was thinking "Super Glue", course you only get 1 shot at proper alignment, especially with the material in question. I"ll look into the brand name you state over here across the pond or its equivalent. Thanks.
