Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Post by Onefut »

Hi folkies

what a mine of info this forum is, its great
Im looking forward to having a good old dig around

I've just bought a Volvo S80 2000 model 2.4 with a leaking steering rack

Any info or help on how to remove the rack would be great especially pictures
i had a look under there today an it looks like ill have to droop the rear part of the sub frame to get at the rack
Ive tried to find a thread where someone had done the job but ive had no joy

thanx for any help in advance

This is from VADIS (Volvo Aftersales Diagnostics and Information System).

For the later model owners, such as yourself, VADIS has quite a lot of help for repairs on it. You can get a copy (DVD) quite cheaply on eBay. This doesn't mean that we don't want to answer your queries but, from what I have seen of the Haynes manual, VADIS has more detail and is less than quarter the price.

just need to find a good parts supplier in the uk that doesnt charge the earth

I got underneath the car the other day and all i need is
standard steering rack, or a rebuild kit
front wish bone bush
steering stops, think ill find some thick rubber tube an repair these
tie bar mount bush, goes from the front cross member to the trans
bonnet struts, not neccessary but stops the need for a big stick to hold up the bonnet
could do with a cd player as its only fitted with a tape deck

They must know you aren't using them for study.

This is one I always recommend for UK members for parts used and new. They don't supply parts but will send your requirements to several vetted suppliers who will contact you with prices and availability. It is a first class service and a lot cheaper than a dealer.

I have the same problem, but the used part I bought appears to have an electronic collar for variable speed sensitive steering, where my Volvo does not have it. Can I take off this collar and replace it with the collar off the original rack?
