How do you determine which transmission you have in the S80's?
I have a 2000 S80 with the 2.9 engine, engine code B6294S.
Is there a tag or label somewhere on the trans that list it?
Vadis lists a bunch of transmissions:
4T65EV
4T65EV-GT
AW50-42
AW55-50/51SN
M56
M65
I am guessing the "AW" means all wheel drive, and the "M" stands for a manual. So that leaves the other two. Is the 4T65EV-GT the tranny that is in the turbo models? My transmission is not the sport shifting type. I may have answered my own question, since the only one left is the 4T65EV.
I am having what seems to be common solenoid problems that are famous for this transmission. I am going to have the tranny computer scanned again and see what it tells us this time, then decide on the fix.

You have the 6 cylinder engine, so that narrows it down to the 4T65. You do not have the manual shifter, so no GT (GearTronic). That means you have the 4T65EV.

I am not sure which transmission is on my car. Base on what you stated then I have a 4T65EV transmission ( 1999, S80 2.9 Non turbo, No Gear tronic). And I've took off the aluminum plate from the transmission body which stated U.S.A (A321804) = This mean the transmission was made in US (by GM).
However, base on the VIN number and the information from Swedishautoparts the my transmission is the AW42.
my VIN #: YV1TS97D6X1XXXXXX
Number "6" in the series above tells it is a AW42.

Please help. I am not sure which transmission so I can buy part to fix
Thank you very much for all your help

I had this problem last year on my 56k mileage car.
It needed a strip down and solenoid replaced. this cost me over £1k.
Mine has geartronic which the gearing was intermitten. It wouldn't select first and fourth gears.
Alls well now.....until that is another electrical problem rears its ugly head!
