2002 S60 118k
For the past several months, I would get a "fuel filler cap loose" message. Replaced the fuel cap gasket last summer...to this day, the message still comes on periodically. Today, the check engine light came on. Stopped by an Autozone store and had the fault code read. Fault code says EVAP "faulty vent solenoid". I go on volvo parts sites and that part name is not found. No repairs done in the last 8-9 months.
Where is this solenoid, and is it easy to replace? In the Haynes manual difficulty scale (1-5 wrenches), I am able to do up to 3. Thanks for your time & help!
Dave

There is a purge valve and a shut-off valve that could be causing that code. Depends on the vin number or I would give you part numbers. Email us the vin and I can get part numbers for you.

Hi,
It turned out to be the purge valve - thank you! this is fixed.

Hello, Where was this purge valve located? Did you get a part number? And, most importantly, how much did it cost? Thanks, Kira

Hi,
my mechanic is replacing it tomorrow for just under $300 parts & labor. You can get that cannister purge valve for around $170-200, but with what you have to remove to get to it, it was worth it for me to have my mechanic do it (my garage isn't heated, and it's still in the 30s here...
