760 turbo will not start due to no fire
I have a 1987 760 turbo immaculate condition but will not start due to no fire. Replaced the Hall Sensor and rotor. Cap is OK. Coil checks OK by Ignition Shop. There are 12 volts at coil. No fire coming out of coil. Am at wits end. Can you help?
If you have 12 volt even when you try to get sparks, it is a bad sign. When I had some problems i made some notes about the values I had at the ignition coil. It could be constant 12 when not running, but you get the sparks by cutting the 12 volt into a square wave and you get the induction making spark voltage level in the coil. Because a square wave is partly on and partly off, the average voltage must be reduced. When messuring AC, I had 3,4 volt at idling and 9.0 volt at rather high rpm. When messuring DC, I had 0.6 at idling and 1.3 volt at rather high rpm. So make some tests when trying to start the engine.
So even if the engine does not start, the value must be reduced a lot, othervise you do not have any square wave. I guess that your ignition power module is bad.
