shifter knob...problem

Okay, well I removed the old shifter knob for an automatic transmission (03) and replaced it with an s80 shifter knob. Now, the shifter turns about 35degrees to either side. it wont turn completely around, but quite a bit? What did i do wrong or forget

I don't know that the S80 shift knob will interchange, (don't know that it won't either). I am assuming you verified they looked the same when you had them both removed. If you've got it lowered down into its hole correctly, it takes a pretty good smack, after which you should hear a click which means the shifter is locked in place. If everything is the same and you haven't heard it click, tap it with a little more force.
