Try squirting some WD40 into the lock opening.

If the key getting stuck in the ignition? If it is, it sounds like the start control unit is going bad.

Depends on what extended warranty you have. I have a bumper to bumper extended warranty which "should" cover it. I can fix almost anything on the car (with my freinds help -ex mechanic) except the "computer". So I paid more for the ONLY covererage that paid for the computer. It covers everything except "expendibles" ie brakes, lights, spark plugs, wipers and the like. I bought a 2007 V50 with 69k and a 36 mon / 36k "bumper to bumper" extended warranty.
If you unsure of coverage call them to ask. IMHO it should be covered - cant quote me on that.

I took the car to the dealership. They said I need a new key cylinder. The part is about 500 dollars to fix. The key does come out. Any ideas to avoid getting this replaced? Help

I asked a Volvo tech today and they said not to spray anything in it. Has this happened to your Volvo??

Nope. Has not happened to my Volvo. However, based on other jobs I have done, I know that a little lubrication often helps a lot. I live on the beach and often the lock cylinders to my house will become sticky, sometimes not working at all. A squirt of WD40 and few rotations of the lock and they're working again smooth as a baby's bottom.

It looks like you have nothing to lose. Listen to the Volvo tech and pay him $500 for a new cylinder, or try some lube and maybe not have to buy a new cylinder. If the WD40 doesn't work, you can always buy the new cylinder.
