Converting OBDII to Volvo DTC

Post by noyesno »

I have check engine light on and had a scan done at Autozone. I got two codes but can't find the specific cross reference to Volvo codes. I read the thread containing DTC codes but need to convert OBDII to Volvo. OBD codes are P0440, and P0172. Please and thank you.

P0172 is a front O2 sensor code. P0440 is an EVAP system leak.

The good news is your O2 sensor is probably just fine. An EVAP leak or cracked vacuum lines will trigger false codes for it. Start by checking the elbow at the charcoal EVAP canister under the rear wheel well. Often times that one cracks and triggers the codes. If that one looks ok, there is another under the battery tray that does the same thing.

Thanks for the tip. Is there a cross reference table available for future use?

I don't find a rear canister, though I did find a hose that went to the booster gauge that was disconnected. One elbow that went from under the fuel rail was suspect, so I replaced that. Do you think either of those would cause the fault?

I lied, I actually just found out the canister on my S70 (and apparently some models of the 850) is just in front of the front wheel well. Take a look at the PDF below - I think you should be able to get to the hoses from the top. I'll go have a look here in a few minutes

That elbow could have caused the P0172 code possibly, but probably not the EVAP leak.

Nope! Sure can't. I don't know where it is in relation to the SAS air pump, but I don't recall seeing it when I was replacing the air pump...then again, I wasn't really looking for it either.

9 times out of 10 P0172 is a vacuum leak. Check all of your vacuum lines.

Well, thanks again. There is a canister under the battery, I'll have to check that a little better for compromised hoses. Appreciate the come back. And thanks Ozark, leaks a hunting we will go.
