V70 Power seat retro fit, how to pls.

Post by steve milner »

Will someone please - please help me out here? I recently unrated my V70 from cloth seats to leather, the cloth was the original fit so were not powered,as the leather driver seat is. The problem i'v got is there is no plug connector under the seat / in loom & the wiring - fuses / other have simply not been fitted to ths car.
What I could do with is a method of rewiring in order to use the power seat, ideally what I would like to do is simpley run an ignition live & earth in the existing loom trunking to the seat then fit a fuse under the seat - control unit.
There are 3x multi 4 pin connecting plugs under the seat 1x white = heater, 2x connecting plugs to the control module, 1x green which is connected to the seat, 1x 4pin grey female on the module which I assume is the power IN supply? (I do not have the male connecter from loom).
Is this possible? as I can just fit shielded female shades to the existing males if I actually knew what pin do's what ie looking from the front of the seat what pins do what - top left - top right
bottom left - bottom right

I really hope there is someone out their that can help here? as the drivers seat is fully adjusted to the rear & as i'm only 5' 4" tall it is impossable for me to actually drive the car LOL. Cheers, Steve. X

Welcome to MVS,

Did you get the power seat brain with the seat? It is a black box that is fitted under the seat that controls its functions. On an 850 it looks like this.

Push comes to shove I can look up some wire colors for you to apply battery voltage to move the seat into a position that is comfortable for you.

Thank you for your reply, the answer to your question regards the black box brain / (ECU / Control Unit) is yes I have every thing accept the grey 4 pin plug & the wiring / loom running to it, so all I need is to I assume is to supply an ignition live & an earth to what ever pins that require them (but which pins are which?) & what size fuse should I put in line? please get back to me. Cheers, Steve.

How about just switching the cow hide to your manual cloth seats?
Hog rings, a set of hogring pliers and some side cutters(to remove the old hogrings) and everything works again :)

Pin 1 is un-switched power, on the factory setup it is a Green/Red wire and it is fed from circuit breaker #39 which is a 30 amp self resetting breaker.

Pin 3 is Ground. In the factory setup it is a black wire.

Pin 4 is the diagnostic line. On the factory setup it is a white wire and it goes to pin number 7 on the OBD-II port.

If both seats are powered the wiring is the same except the passenger's side seat is powered by circuit breaker #40 and the factory wire color is Green. The diagnostic wires both go to pin 7 on the OBD-II port. The factory color for the passenger's side diagnostic wire is Brown / Orange.

On a right hand drive car those wire color setups may be reversed - it is not clear in the schematics.

Sorry my mistake what I thought was a brown was actually brown & orange pin4 top right, the pic is a bit dusty, which just leaves pin 2 - top left yellow & brown?

That wire (Yel/Brn) goes to a switched power connection on my 850 but it does not appear on the schematics for your V70. The schematics just show the module as a black box so I'm not sure what function it served.

Thanks guys but getting a bit confused here, could one / both of you vary decent blokes tell me why there is an need for 2x live feeds to the control unit (black box) 1x green & red to pin 1 (bottom left) which appears to if i'v interprated your explanation correctly is a constant live (why), & 1x yellow & brown to pin 2 (top left) which appears to be the ignition switched live that actually operates the seat. By my way of thinking, if I just connect pin 2 (top left) yellow & brown - an ignition live with an inline fuse (what size fuse), then the black to pin 3 (bottom right) to a chassis earth, the seat will work???????????? or am I just being a dumb ass here lol. Again cheers chaps, love ya. X
