I need help please.. I had to replace the head and I am having problems timing it.. I need help timing the Crankshaft and Camshaft.

I bought the tool that locks in the Camshaft but it is not locking it on (TDC) top dead center. Need to know where it needs to be. can anyone please help?

Can you post up a pic of the tool you are using and how you are using it?

I have uploaded the parts that I had ordered to do this job. I am putting it in per the instructions that I was given. There is only 1 way it will go in.

The cam tool places the cams where they need to be when the crank is at TDC.
The crank needs to be turned to TDC before the head is reinstalled. If the head is installed and the crank is not at TDC you may have to turn the cams while turning the crank so the pistons do not hit the valves.
If you have been trying to turn the crank against the valves that are locked in place with the locking tool you may have bent a valve.

Take some pics of you crank timing location and the cam lock on the tools and we can help more.

I had the pistions set at TDC and when I put the tool in it still turned the pistons. It never did lock the cam. I will take pictures and post them. ( I am not where the car is right now) My friend is working on it for me. He has replaced plent of heads before but this one if different.

If you had the piston (number one) closest to the cam timing belt at TDC and the valves locked with the tool when the head went on then the marks for both cam and crank should be right in place. (keep in mind the VVT pulley will have to be turned to line up the marks).

Where iare your crank mark and cam marks now? Pics would be great.

The two Y-looking things pull the cam cover down onto the head. They don't lock the cams. The orange gismo blocks the crank - if you used that the crank shouldn't have moved. The black thing at the top looks like the cam locker. Did you use that?

I told you wrong on one of those post. We have not installed the Camshaft yet. He has the head on and bolted down.

We know that some volvos don't time TDC on #1 but we are not sure if this one does.

He wants to verify the postion of the crankshaft because the tool is not stopping at TDC on #1.

The crank pulley is keyed and can only go on in one position. Put it on and line up the mark. Thats where it needs to be.
