You are correct, not all of these engines line up at TDC. Please ignore my previous comment and use the crank pulley mark as your guide. With the cams out there should be no interference between the piston and valves. The crank should not move by intalling the head
You should be able to use the pulley on the crank and line up your mark. Then insert the cams.
If you want to know if the piston is TDC just line up the crank mark and look through the spark plug hole.

Hi, you should NOT go by the TDC on the 2001 s 40, it has a mark on the crankshaft where the timing belt teeth are, should be aligned with the oil pump mark, and definitely you have to use your tools for the cams, and after you palce the timing belt in place make sure you hand turn at least 2 complete turn and check if they align together the the camshafts sprokets and the crankshaft sproket together.
