Rear Seatbelt Light?
Just wondering if the 1994 960s had the seatbelt light located in the center console between the two front seats around the rear ashtray so the passengers in the back can see it. The owners manual says that there is a light in the instrument cluster and in the rear between the two seats but I don't see it on mine. I am not sure if it is not equipped, or it is simply burnt out. If anyone knows if there is one, can you tell me where it is and how to change the bulb.
Thanks
Thanks

There should be one. Remove the rear ashtray and you will see two screws at the bottom of the panel. Rremove the screws and the panel comes out.

Thanks.
How do you remove the ashtray? I don't want to break it. Does it pop out, spring loaded or have to remove screws?

Open the ashtray and you will see a spring metal strip running front to rear. Press down on the strip and gently pull the ashtray towards you.

So after removing the rear ashtray, there is only one light in the rear, a simple light above the ashtray. I guess it is burnt out since it doesn't turn on. Not sure if it comes on with the headlights on or if the ashtray is open or what, but there is no seatbelt light. The manual in my car says there are two, one in the dash and the other in the console between the two front seats. I have no clue where it is because I can't find it. Unless it is on certain models or I am looking in the wrong spot, but as far as I can see, mine doesn't have it. Any ideas?

My 960 had a red light above the rear ashtray which flashed, along with the front warning light, when the front seats were occupied but the belts weren't fastened. It didn't flash when the rear seats were occupied and the belts weren't fastened. I thought it was a waste of time so I just ignored it.
The white light for the rear ashtray should come on when the outside lights are on, same as the light in the front ashtray. Is it necessary or is it just another gimmick with an expensive bulb to burn out?
Bill.

I didn't even know there was a light above the rear ashtray until I actually looked closely at it, nor did I know there was one in the front. Clearly they are burnt out. I also didn't know there was a green light around the cigarette lighter, I assumed it was just a ring. This is very true that it is just another expensive bulb that will burn out and Volvos for some strange reason burn out bulbs like crazy. Very frustrating.
But, if I do decide to replace the bulbs in the cigarette lighter and front ashtray, any easy way to do it?
Thanks BIll

There is only one bulb that covers the lighter and the ashtray and it is behind the lighter.
Remove the lighter element and unclip the trim from around the aperture.
Remove the screws now exposed.
Remove the lighter and disconnect the wiring feed and bulb holder from the rear.
Really easy but do you need it?

I don't "need" it, but it just bugs me when little lights go out. I popped the front ashtray out and I can see the light bulb at the top (it doesn't seem to be located behind the cigarette lighter and makes me wonder if there are two separate bulbs or maybe that bulbs light somehow makes its way to the lighter). Anyways, I don't want to drag this on and on but how do you unclip the cigarette lighter and aperture? I am not even sure what that is. Does the socket itself pop out, or do I have to remove the whole center console trim?
Thanks
