1998 V70 XC Tracs Off/ABS Lights

Post by adecoux »

I just had my car in for the 150,000 mile preventative maintenance. Three days after I brought the car home, the Tracs Off/ABS lights came on intermittently. I brought the car back to the dealer questioning how this could happen after they checked the car. I replaced a few parts (turbo and new rear brakes) but nothing was ever mentioned about the ABS system. They now tell me I need a new ABS Control Module ($800). I'm not sure what to do.

When the light is not on, are the ABS brakes working properly?
Is this part easy to replace?

I appreciate any advice!

It is very common for those ABS control units to go bad. I have replaced them more than I can count.

However, it is not that expensive if you know where to shop  8)
and its not that hard to replace.

probably not the computer module but the sensors on dirty wheels. take off the wheels so you can clean the sensors. dirt builds up on them. the dealer knows this and is just ripping you off.

Take the advice from Vitor, the ABS modules do fail, my V70RAWD had only done 60K miles before failure. I paid about $200 for a repaired unit and it only takes 1/2hr to change.
