I have a 1989 740 GL Volvo. It is not going into gear. The RPM goes to
3,000 before it goes into the 3rd gear reving at a high level. The cable that
goes to the trottle body is not going into the sleve at the top of the mount.
The Transmis RMP goes to 3,000 before it goes into 3rd gear. Topic is solved
replacing the cable will likely solve the problem; when it ages it stretches and then you have delayed shifting
i Agree with JGolden, that it sounds like a bad kick down wire but I think that some treads in the wire are broken so the wire has split somewhere. Then it will not go back by the return spring inside the gearbox. If you pull the kick down wire between yuor fingers it should run really smooth and nice and it should be no probelm for the wire to go back.
