96 850/150k
Does anyone have a picture of the location of the starter solenoid on my 96 850?. If not, can someone describe what it looks like and describe how difficult to remove?
Where is starter solenoid on 96 850?

I will have a picture in about 10 hrs from now; in the process of doing some work right now involving taking the manifold off. If you look down under the intake manifold off though, the starter is the semi-cylindrical black thing on the driver's side of the engine block.

The starter is on the radiator side of the engine and is bolted at the transmission end as wellas a bracket on the passenger side. The solenoid is part of the starter about the size of a film canister and has a heavy guage wire running from the battery to a terminal on the solenoid. there is a second smaller wire that goes to the ignition switch.

that is very helpful...and thanks in advance when sending picture. Also, is the solenoid easy to remove? is it sitting under throttle body? I have heard it may just need lubricating in some cases. if not how much do they run$$$$.

^^ There is the pic. If I understand correctly, the solenoid itself is the thing lower down in the pic covered by the diaphram part of the EGR valve. True Jot?
Hah, ignore the broken bracket on the EGR valve (long story

Nice picture- however I cannot be for sure that i see the starter solenoid. Can you save off as a bmp and add an arrow? Is this an 850?

Where are you located? I'll post a parts readout that shows the complete starter setup, but it is different for California. Hmm, you may want to try the brush rebuild kit first, as it's about $5. The starter solenoid is $140. Ay ay ay, the cost on the full starter is $624!Sting wrote:Oh think I see it now-has a metal (shiny) band around its circumference. Anyone know how is or hard to remove? Can these be lubricated? What is the cost part?
