But you have an issue that's not gonna just go away. Volvo is pretty good about waterproofing.
I suspect that you've got an electrical connector somewhere that is no longer "mint".
The high voltage ignition parts - Coil, cap, rotor and wires - are the first places I'd look.
When is the last time that stuff was replaced?

You may have almost invisible cracks in the Ignition Coil.... My daughters VW Jetta suffered from the same even during heavy rain without hitting a puddle. The coil will bleed to ground if the coating is cracked due to age, a simple remedy is to spray the coil with a Silicone Lube to drive out the moisture and temporarily seal the insulation coating until you can replace the coil if it's needed...
Thanks for all the input. As it turns out I took the dist.cap off and wiped it out and pulled the plug wires. 2 of the 5 cylinder pockets had a little water in them. Dried them out and know the car runs fine. I do need to replace the starter however. I t seem to have gotten completely soaked and know does not always catch.
Oh well, could have been worse.
