Check the air hoses and boots for tears. An airflow leak is a common cause of your problem. After that I would check the fuel pump and relay.

as joe says, it sounds like a hose tear or vac leak. When was the last time its had a good ol tune up ? how many miles on the car ? etc..

Codes?

Without codes the best we can do is guess. If you have not used your OBD system here is how the codes are read.

http://volvospeed.com/CheckEngine.php

Since you have an N/A pull the codes from both port A-2 and A-6 and post back the results.

The fuel pump relay, when it starts to fail, is temperature sensitive and it may or may not post a code at all. We are at that time of the year.

I can also throw in that this would also happen to me and it turned out to be a tear in my intake hose between the intake manifold and the airbox (basically air got in without being read by the MAF sensor (I think it's a maf on these cars? not a map?).
I ran to autocheck and bought some new hose and replaced it all and no problems.

This is just what worked for me, it's worth inspecting as it could be cheaper than needlessly replacing a fuel pump ;)
