Air Conditioning quality

Good Morning,

I have an '06 XC90 and the problem I am having is that the air conditioning is much cooler on the driver side than the passenger side. Strange problem in that the amount of air that is coming from the dash is the same, just much cooler on the driver side. Is anyone aware of things I might check or look into to solve this problem.

Do you have a dual control system? If so, there is a temp control for each side of the cabin. Try moving the control for the passenger's side to a cooler setting and see if that helps.

Indeed I do have the dual control and it is set at the coolest setting. This is indeed getting a bit perplexing. Thanks for the reply and if you can think of anything else please let me know. One thing I forgot to note is the vehicle has about 55,000 miles on it now.

I had the exact same problem. Turned out that our a/c needed to be topped off with refrigerant.

Basically they recharged the refrigerant/coolant (r134a) in the a/c system. By recharging, I mean they topped it off. Adding just a small amount of refrigerant to a low system can make a big difference. The noise that I heard in our system led me to believe that the refrigerant was a little low. I suspect yours could be the same.

The recharge kits are sold at almost any parts or superstore (walmart, kmart, sears, etc...) They are simple to use. It's basically a can of refrigerant under pressure that once connected to your system, forces refrigerant into your system. The cans typically have a guage that will show you when the system is at full charge.

If you are unsure, take it to an a/c service center and have them recharge your system. I suspect that if you simply tell them to recharge or top off the system, it probably would be more like 50-75 bucks (maybe less). I'm thinking that I paid more because they took a little extra time to diagnose the problem.

It's pretty interesting that our xc90 is the same year as yours, with nearly the exact same milage.

in the XC90, can anybody advice where is the valve for recharging the coolant (r134a) Low Side. I've been recharging my cars before honda, subaru, toyota, But never did a european car yet.
