Post by z31jaime »

ok so today i go to open my rear passenger door, and it will not unlock, i did a quick search online and found someone said probably a loose rod in the lock assembley and that its an easy fix....just pull your door panel off and fix it...........but my door is stuck closed...how do i open it or take the panel off with it closed?

Sorry, occasionally we miss unanswered posts, or leave them hoping someone else will answer with a better answer.

I think the only thing you can do would be to try to remove the door panel with a rather destructive approach - you make have to break it off in sections and find a replacement, since all the fasteners are located around the opening of the door. But hopefully once you get into it you can push the locking mechanism with a screwdriver and get the door open.

The lock mechanism itself, if it is not working by the central locking system in the car, has probably come loose or the door opener cable itself has come detached from the latch.

i was advised to remove the back seat to gain access to hte door panel.
from there, you may be able to remove it without scarrring it.
i have the same issue.
same door.

i just haven't tkaent he time to try to fix it.

in my case, i believe it has to do with the child-proof locks on the door.
it will (almost) unlock with the other doors; but stops halfway, then locks again.
i tried to ambush the lock with a pair of pliers to manually unlock it, only to pull the lock knob form the car completely.

Is there anyway we can remove the door? example, un bolting it.
would that work?

If not, the back seat seems like a good approach.
we are going to get at this Thursday. do I smell a write up in the works if this works out.. I believe I do, haha.

If you had a Jeep where the hinges are on the outside, sure! But the hinges are all on the inside, so you don't have any way of getting to them.

I don't know that removing the rear seat will work either. I just took a look at mine, and unless the 850 is terribly different than the -70's, there is no way pulling the seat out of the way will enable you to get to anything. Maybe if you pull that entire plastic molding away, but I couldn't see where to even start with that with the door still closed. It may be possible to somehow unclip the panel with some kind of tool, and then still work if off with the door closed.

ummmm if you open the front door you have access to all 4 bolts for the hendges. and the 2 bolts for the door slide, then the door should swing out just a little bit, just enough for me to get access to the lower screws on the panel then i can remove it.....

at least thats my idea..........
