severe wire failures, rear door wont open and wipe stops. Check wire harness at hinge area. I found 8 broken wires and 3 exposed but not completely broken. Door is hard to open when it will not unlock.

This is a flaw that Volvo hasn't been able to design out of their wagons for 30+ years.

It's a flaw all makes have in their wagons. I have repaired or replaced wires in Explorers, Expeditions, VW, BMW, Mercedes, etc, etc

i have repaired the original wire where test lead wire (more but much smaller strands inside the insulation) was used and even that fatigued and broke.

The mini-van way with spring loaded contacts and contact pads is a great way to do it but it wouldn't support power tailgates and other items in tailgates that work with it open.

The wire loom gets bent sharply and smashed between hinge and roof, my fix may only last a while so a better solution is needed. At least I learned how to open the door when the lock has no power.
